Hospital Bed Types, Sizes and Categories
Hospital Beds generally feature a 36"W by 80"L sleep surface, but are also available in widths of 39", 42", 48", 54" and even 60". And some models are even available in 84", 86" and 88" lengths to accommodate taller patients.
Hospital beds come in four main categories when it comes to adjustability: Manual (not sold at NewLeaf); Semi-Electric Hospital Beds (offer powered Head and Foot section adjustment, with manual Overall Height adjustment operation by a provided hand crank); Full-Electric Hospital Beds (offer fully powered Head, Foot and Overall Height adjustability); and Low Hospital Beds (provide a lower height from the ground—some as low as 9.5") compared to standard Semi- and Full-Electric beds. Low Beds are ideal for users with Alzheimer's, Dementia, or others who may be considered a fall risk. The below table shows the adjustable functionality for each bed group.
