Alginate Dressings refer to absorbent wound dressings that contain sodium and carbon fibers derived from seaweed. These fibers act as a biofilm that minimizes bacterial contamination, limits wound secretion, and promotes exudate drainage. Alginate dressings are ideally used on wounds that produce a large amount of exudate. They are often applied to venous ulcers, stage III or IV pressure ulcers, and packing wounds.
