The Skin Barrier, also known as flange, wafer, or stoma wafer, is an important part of a Two-Piece Ostomy Pouch system. The skin barrier adheres to the peristomal skin as an attachment point for the pouch while sealing the stoma to prevent leaks and odor. Since a skin barrier must remain securely affixed, they are usually combined with Adhesives, Pastes, Powders or Lotions to treat the skin to prevent infection and irritation.
